These terms apply to car rentals. Private transfers have separate booking terms.
Booking and vehicle allocation
A reservation is for a vehicle category, not a guaranteed make, model, colour or trim. Operational requirements, maintenance or unforeseen circumstances may require a comparable or upgraded substitute at no additional rental charge. The rental starts only after identification and licence checks, payment authorisation, execution of the agreement and your acceptance of the vehicle.
Deposits, changes and cancellations
A 20% deposit is required when reserving a rental. The deposit is not refundable as a cash refund if you cancel. An advance change made at least seven days before pickup does not forfeit the deposit. If you cancel at least seven days before pickup, the deposit becomes a future travel credit in the same renter’s name. Changes within seven days may not reduce the original reservation total. Changes remain subject to availability and current pricing. The remaining balance is charged at pickup or within seven days before the rental begins.
Delays and no-shows
Notify the company if you are delayed. A reservation may be treated as a no-show when pickup is more than four hours late without notification, and the vehicle may be released. No-shows and cancellations fewer than seven days before pickup can incur non-refundable charges up to the original reservation total. Disclosed cancellation charges, suspected fraud and policy violations may also affect a reservation.
Drivers and documents
The minimum renter age is 21. Additional conditions and an underage fee apply below age 25. Present a valid driving licence; international renters must also present a valid passport. Each additional driver requires company approval before driving. The renter remains responsible for the vehicle and the agreement, including use by an additional driver.
Insurance and payment cards
Provide acceptable full-coverage insurance including liability, collision and comprehensive coverage, or arrange an eligible product offered by the company. Qualifying policies from major US insurers are accepted; international travellers must satisfy the same requirements. A valid physical Visa, Mastercard or Discover credit card is required. American Express is not accepted.
Payment authority and security holds
The payment method supplied may be charged for agreed rental costs, deposits, taxes, fees, fuel, cleaning, damage, tolls, parking violations, administration and other amounts due under the agreement, including items identified after return. A card authorisation hold may be required. The company may retain an applicable portion for outstanding obligations; release and processing times depend on the card issuer. Failure to maintain a valid payment method may lead to cancellation or termination.
Inspecting and caring for the vehicle
Check the vehicle before leaving and record existing damage with photos or video. Acceptance acknowledges satisfactory condition except for documented issues. Drive lawfully and safely, secure the vehicle when unattended, use the correct fuel and monitor fluid levels and warning indicators during extended travel.
Roads, borders and permitted use
Use is limited to authorised areas and lawful personal transportation. Paved-road travel is the default. Certain eligible classes may use specified unpaved roads only with advance approval and the required surcharge and taxes. Disclose any planned gravel travel before collection. Undisclosed or unauthorised gravel use can lead to the surcharge and additional applicable fees being charged on return. No vehicle may be driven on the Dalton Highway. Obtain permission for cross-border travel, ferries, seasonal or remote routes and other restricted areas before departure.
Prohibited activities
Do not allow an unauthorised driver to operate the vehicle or drive while impaired. Racing, speed testing, criminal activity, reckless or negligent use, and unlawful operation are prohibited. Towing, pushing, commercial use and other activities requiring written approval must not be undertaken without it. Hazardous materials may not be carried. Breaching permitted-use conditions may invalidate optional protection and leave the renter responsible for resulting penalties, damage and losses.
Checking restricted-road use
Reasonable verification may include vehicle inspections, rock chips, glass or underbody damage, dust or mud, photographs, GPS or telematics information and other relevant evidence. The company may restrict particular roads or areas where conditions create an elevated risk of damage.
Fuel and return arrangements
Unless you purchased a prepaid fuel option, return the vehicle with the same fuel level as at collection. Missing fuel and a refuelling service fee may be charged. Return the vehicle to the agreed location at the agreed time. Late returns can incur additional rental charges, administration and late fees up to $199, and recovery action. A vehicle may be reported as unlawfully retained if reasonable attempts to contact the renter fail.
Extensions and early returns
Request approval for an extension before the agreed return time. Availability, the return location and current rates determine whether an extension can be offered and at what price. Early returns do not carry an early-return penalty, but unused days, products and services are not refunded or credited.
Accidents, damage and breakdowns
Report accidents, damage, theft or attempted theft, vandalism, mechanical faults and lost keys immediately. Cooperate with police and insurers, complete requested reports and do not admit liability on the company’s behalf. Delayed reporting may increase your responsibility.
Damage costs and protection
Subject to applicable law and any valid protection product, responsibility may include physical damage, legally permitted diminished value, loss of use, recovery and towing, administration, missing equipment and third-party property damage. A protection product or waiver may not apply when the vehicle has been used contrary to the agreement.
Citations, cleanliness and belongings
The renter is responsible for traffic and parking penalties, enforcement violations and related administration charges. Keep the vehicle smoke-free: smoking, vaping and tobacco or cannabis use are prohibited in and near it. Excessive dirt, mud, stains, odours, pet hair, biological contamination or other extraordinary cleaning can result in additional charges. The company does not accept responsibility for personal belongings lost, stolen or damaged before, during or after the rental.
Refusal of service and liability
Where lawful, the company may decline or end a rental for invalid documents, suspected impairment, fraud concerns, threatening behaviour or a breach of the agreement. The renter’s indemnity covers claims, losses and expenses arising from vehicle use or possession, except to the extent caused by company gross negligence or wilful misconduct. To the extent permitted by law, company liability is limited to actual direct losses and excludes indirect, incidental, consequential, punitive or special losses, including lost business, disrupted holidays and transport delays.
Personal information and governing documents
Information collected for the rental may be used for reservation management, payment and insurance administration, vehicle recovery, customer service, legal compliance and other lawful business purposes. Alaska law governs the agreement, with disputes heard in Alaska state or federal courts unless applicable law requires otherwise. These terms, the rental agreement, inspection and damage records, protection selections and signed addenda form the agreement and replace earlier discussions.
